Verification

As of March 20, 2023, the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) has implemented its new, cloud-based license management system. All licenses, credentials, and certifications through KBN will now be available for verification through the Board of Nursing License Verification Portal. Facilities can search by Name, License Number, or NCSBN ID. (NCSBN ID is the public, globally unique identifier for all nurses from Boards participating in the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.)

The KBN maintains the nurse aide abuse registry for the state of Kentucky. 902 KAR 20:300 requires that a nursing facility shall not be operated by or employ any person who is listed on the:

  1. Nurse aide abuse registry or
  2. Caregiver misconduct registry

The Office of Inspector General confirms that facilities need to check both registries for all employees.

Please see the example below of what will appear on the Online Validation if the SRNA is on the Abuse registry maintained by KBN when you check by the SRNA#.

Doe, Jane Is listed on the Kentucky Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Nurse Aide Abuse Registry. For more information, contact the Kentucky OIG, Division of Licensing and Regulation at 502-564-7963.

The Kentucky Board of Nursing only has a record of individuals who have or have held a SRNA#.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE KBN WHEN THERE ARE NO SEARCH RESULTS

Providers should download the “Primary Source Board of Nursing Report Summary form” for your facility records. The Office of the Inspector General has approved this form.

Also, facilities will need to check the Kentucky Adult Caregiver Misconduct Registry using the employee Social Security Number.

In the past when facilities searched the database and received a notice stating an individual was not on the abuse registry, this was only accurate information for those with a SRNA# in the database.

All verifications must be completed online. Written and mailed verifications are no longer available.
