Reinstatement Continuing Competency Requirements

​​​​​​​The continuing competency requirements for reinstatement applicants vary depending on how long a Kentucky license has been lapsed. Please refer to the below chart.

Information regarding reinstatement

If Your Reinstatement Application is Received at KBN:Submit Proof of ONE of the Following:
Within 12 months of the date your license lapsed
  • 14 CE, earned within the past 1 yea​r OR
  • A satisfactory nursing employment evaluation given within the past 1 year and 7 CE, earned within the past year OR
  • Verification of at least 500 hours of non-Kentucky nursing employment within the past 5 years (see above) OR
  • Any of the continued competency validation methods listed in 201 KAR 20:215, Section 2
12 months and one day to 2 years from the date your license lapsed
  • 28 CE (at least 14 earned within past 1 year) OR
  • Verification of at least 500 hours of non-Kentucky nursing employment within the past 5 years (see above)
2 years and one day to 3 years from the date your license lapsed
  • 42 CE (at least 14 earned within past 1 year) OR
  • Verification of at least 500 hours of non-Kentucky nursing employment within the past 5 years (see above)
3 years and one day to 4 years from the date your license lapsed
  • 56 CE (at least 14 earned within past 1 year) OR
  • Verification of at least 500 hours of non-Kentucky nursing employment within the past 5 years (see above)
4 years and one day to 5 years from the date your license lapsed
  • 70 CE (at least 14 earned within past 1 year) OR
  • Verification of at least 500 hours of non-Kentucky nursing employment within the past 5 years (see above)
More than 5 years from the date your license lapsed
  • 120 CE (ALL earned within one year of the date the application is received at KBN) OR
  • Verification of at least 500 hours of non-Kentucky nursing employment within the past 5 years (see above)
