As to the statutory requirements that refer to same or similar specialty, the Board of Nursing will expect the APRN's certification and the physician's specialty to have minimal overlap to qualify as “a similar specialty." This means that the populations served, or the diseases treated by the APRN are similar or have some type of minimal overlap to that of the collaborating physician's populations served or illnesses treated. For example, a Family Practice physician who treats children within the practice could enter into a CAPA agreement with a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
