Kentucky Applicants:

For graduates prior to 7/1/2024:

All current CMA's previously registered with KCTCS must apply for the CMA I credential with KBN.  The original issue date will be reflected in the Board of Nursing License Verification Portal after the application has been processed and approved.

For graduates after 7/1/2024:

You must submit the CMA I application.  Your CMA program coordinator will provide KBN with the certified list of graduates to validate the completion of the CMA program.

Out of State Applicants:

All CMA applicants applying for reciprocity of their Medication Aide certification from out of state must have their Medication Aide education reviewed by the Kentucky Board of Nursing to ensure that the education received is equivalent to that of a Medication Aide certified in the state of Kentucky.  Please allow additional time for this review to be completed.

You must upload a copy of your CMA Education Completion Certificate, verifying that you completed the program during the application process.

Note for Ohio Applicants:  Because the education curriculum for CMA's educated in Ohio was changed and does not meet the standard requirements for Kentucky, Ohio applicants that completed a CMA program after October 31, 2024, must complete a Kentucky approved program to be credentialed as a CMA in Kentucky.

If your state does not administer a board approved exam or the Medication Aide Certification Exam (MACE), you will be required to register with Credentia and pass the MACE.  If you are required to take the MACE, instructions will be sent to you through the nurse portal message center.

Challenge Applicants:

  • You must upload proof of your CMA I education through your nurse portal account.

  • We will need copies of your CMA education completion certificate(s) and/or any transcripts to be reviewed for the challenge.  Please allow additional time for this review to be completed.
