The Kentucky Board of Nursing has no jurisdiction, laws or regulations that address malpractice insurance. Kentucky is one of many states that does not mandate APRNs to purchase medical malpractice insurance. Though an APRN is not required to carry malpractice insurance in Kentucky, the health care facility and Insurance plans may require malpractice coverage. An APRN may wish to discuss the subject of malpractice insurance with an attorney who specializes in this area of law or with an employer prior to or upon hire.
