The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) in Kentucky is a registered nurse who:

  • Holds a current RN license in Kentucky or another compact state.
  • Holds a SANE A/A or SANE P/A credential issued by KBN:
    • SANE A/A Is trained in the forensic examination of adults and adolescents, defined as “a child who has reached the onset of physiological normal puberty” or older who have been the victim of sexual assault.
    • SANE P/A Is trained in the forensic examination of pediatrics and adolescents, defined as “a child who has not reached the onset of physiological normal puberty” or individuals up to age 18 who have been the victim of sexual assault.
  • Collects and preserves evidence and testifies in legal proceedings in accordance with Kentucky law.

Review Your Application or Credential Status

To obtain addresses for sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs), complete the following:

  • Mail the SANE Data Roster Download Request Form that is located in the KBN Document Library to the KBN at the address listed on the form.
  • Pay the $120 base fee to the KBN address provided on the form. The base fee must be paid in advance with a check or money order payable to the Kentucky Board of Nursing. (ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE)

Please note the following:

  • Orders will be sent via email unless otherwise indicated. If you prefer another method of shipment, you must indicate which method on the order form.
  • A SANE Data Roster Download consists of name, first name, address, city, state, zip code, issue date. The information supplied by this agency reflects the most current information available. However, as the licensee is responsible for updating the information, the accuracy of the data on file cannot be guaranteed by this agency.
  • Social Security numbers, telephone numbers, and email addresses are NOT included in the download.
  • Data will be provided in semicolon- delimited format, which can easily be imported into a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Obtain Instructions for importing the Data Roster by visiting the KBN Document Library.

  • Data downloaded is current as of the close of the previous business day.
  • Additional information requires a custom request, which require a programming fee of $75 per hour with a minimum of one hour. If you require a custom request, please contact KBN.Webmaster@ky.gov for a separate form and an estimate.
  • All fees, including programming fees, must be paid in advance.
  • ​Please allow 4-6 weeks for your request to be processed.
