Licensure By Reinstatement: Quick Links

REQUIREMENTS:

• Application and Fee,  
• Evidence of Continuing Competency,
• State Criminal Background Check,  
• Federal Criminal Background Check, and
• Complete the Kentucky Jurisprudence Exam

CONTINUING COMPETENCY: 

• Continuing Competency must be from a  KBN-approved provider [PDF Format].
• Determine when your license expired/lapsed then determine what you must submit to meet the continuing competency requirements. 

STATE CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS: 

• Request a background check from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).
• The report must come from AOC.  No other state reports will be accepted. 
• Instructions for obtaining the report [PDF Format - 187KB] are available to assist you.  Print and follow the instructions.   

FEDERAL CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS (FINGERPRINTING):

• Request a fingerprint card.
• Send the completed fingerprint card and the $16.50 processing fee to the Kentucky State Police.

REPORTING A FELONY OR MISDEMEANOR CONVICTION:

• Review information regarding what convictions must be reported and the required documents to be submitted to KBN. 
• Fax letters (see above link) to 502-429-3353.
• Certified court documents and Board orders must be mailed to KBN, Investigative and Discipline Branch
  • It could take up to 3 months to process applications with a "Yes" response to any discipline and/or conviction question.

ANSWERED THE CONVICTION OR DISCIPLINARY QUESTION IN ERROR?

REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION

• Three hours of Domestic Violence continuing education [PDF Format - 12KB] within 3 years of KY licensure
• One and a half hours of Pediatric Head Abuse Trauma [PDF Format - 12KB] within 3 years of KY licensure

APPLICATION STATUS: 

Follow the status of your application as it is being processed - it will list what requirements are needed before your license will be reinstated. 

VALIDATE THE EXPIRATION DATE OF YOUR LICENSE:

After your license has been reinstated, check the expiration date.  If you fail to renew, you will have to reinstate, repeating this entire reinstatement process.
