Role of the LPN in Assisting with the Placement of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)

It was the advisory opinion of the Board that it is within the scope of RN practice for a RN who is educationally prepared and clinically competent in the performance of the procedure to assist a physician in the insertion of a percutaneous endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube under the continuous, direct, and on-site supervision and direction of the physician performing the procedure.  The performance of this act is not within the scope of LPN practice.
