Administration of Medications via Gastrostomy Tubes by UAPs in Schools
In April 2004, the Board responded to an opinion request on the administration of medications via a gastrostomy tube by unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) in schools.
Following review of the statutes, administrative regulations governing nursing practice, and the information provided in the request, the members approved a revision to Advisory Opinion Statement #15 Roles of Nurses in the Supervision and Delegation of Nursing Acts to Unlicensed Personnel [PDF Format - 48k]. This revision reflected the opinion of the Board that nurses may, under certain conditions, delegate medication administration via gastrostomy tubes to UAP in school settings.
