Delegation to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel
The Board reaffirmed its advisory opinion that, based upon 201 KAR 20:400, a nurse should not delegate sterile urinary catheterization to unlicensed assistive personnel. It was the advisory opinion of the Board that using 201 KAR 20:400, a nurse may delegate to educationally prepared and clinically competent unlicensed nursing assistive personnel, the removal of a peripheral intravenous catheter. A peripheral catheter is defined as being three inches or less in length.
