Teaching Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Medication Administration Curriculum – Scope of LPN Practice

It was the advisory opinion of the Board that teaching unlicensed assistive personnel to administer oral and topical medications as delegated and supervised by a nurse is within the scope of RN practice, and NOT within the scope of LPN practice.  It is within the scope of practice for a LPN to assist a RN or physician in this activity and to reinforce the educational activities taught in the program.
