LPN Practice - Role in Advanced Life Support
October 2010 - Following review of 201 KAR 20:490, Kentucky Revised Statutes, and American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (2006), it was the advisory opinion of the Board that it is within licensed practical nursing practice for the licensed practical nurse who has received appropriate training and demonstrated competency to provide Basic Life Support activities during a cardio/respiratory arrest situation.
The Board further advised that CPR is a major focus of Advanced Life Support, and can be administered while awaiting arrival of emergency personnel.
