License Validation System

For added security measures, we no longer offer the option of entering a social security number when you access the license validation system.  The Basic License Validation is offered FREE OF CHARGE.

If you select a validation service other than the Basic, an annual subscription fee plus an annual premimum service fee is required.  For enhanced service subscription information, see:

The following key services are provided with the subscription options:

  • Ability to validate multiple license types through one integrated search.
  • Up-to-the-minute license information.
  • Multiple levels of service to meet your individual needs.
  • Convenient monthly billing.
  • Enhanced and Premium subscribers also enjoy license monitoring and notification when license information changes, simplified data entry, and the ability to create custom license lists.
Basic Validation Search

You may now search the validation system by name (First, Last, or Both to narrow the search), as well as the other validation options listed below.  The name search validation is available for nurses and the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry.

Please review the validation options below, and then go to the Basic Validation Search page to access the system.

  • Validate ARNP registrations by entering the 4-digit ARNP registration number or by name.
  • Validate RN and LPN licenses by entering the 7-digit license number or by name.
  • Validate provisional licenses by entering the 8-digit provisional license number or by name.  Questions can be emailed to KBN-cred@ky.gov.
  • Validate temporary work permits by entering the 5-digit temporary work permit number or by name.
  • Validate state registered nurse aides or home health aides by name.
Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) Validation

With implementation of the NLC, please note that employers need to continue validating the license of a nurse whose primary state of residence is a compact state (other than Kentucky).

KBN can take disciplinary action on a nurse's "privilege to practice."

Primary Source Verification

The KBN website is considered primary source verification and is actually the preferred method of licensure validation instead of viewing the license card.  Both JCAHO and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Office of the Inspector General, consider verification through the website as evidence of licensure.  License cards, which are an additional evidence of licensure, generally take 3 to 6 weeks to print.
