Out-of-State APRN Programs Seeking to Utilize Kentucky Clinical Sites

During the 2010 Legislative session, Kentucky law was amended to give the Board of Nursing oversight for graduate degrees which lead to licensure as advanced practice nurses, as well as programs offering a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP).

Section 11 of 201 KAR 20:062 Standards for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Programs of Nursing, outlines the requirements for out-of-state APRN programs seeking clinical placements in Kentucky.

Any program of nursing located outside the state that would like to place students in clinical practicum utilizing a Kentucky facility must seek permission from both the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) before scheduling a practicum.

The packet of materials found below details the process for program approval as well as for individual student clinical practicum approval.  The approval for a program will only need to be completed once for each college/university. Once the program is approved, requests for individual participation may be sent.

To allow time for review and approval, all materials should be sent as soon as possible, but no later than two (2) months prior to the first date of the clinical practicum.
